Perma Fried Is Available in Quebec and It's Been Three Years in the Making
Not every strain earns its place on a shelf. Perma Fried has been earning it for the better part of 2.5 years.
For Master Grower Daniel Torres, this cultivar has never been a problem, it’s been an opportunity. “It’s vigorous, responsive, and doesn’t present many major challenges compared to some more temperamental genetics,” he said.
What it demands instead, is discipline. More specifically, the discipline to manage its stretch and flip it at exactly the right moment.
Cannabis plants are photoperiod-sensitive, meaning the change in light exposure is what triggers them to stop growing vertically and start producing flowers. Growers call it “the flip” because you’re essentially flipping the plant’s biological switch from grow mode to bloom mode.
Through multiple runs, Torres and his team identified a clear window: flip the plant to flower when it’s between 18 and 24 inches tall. If a grower lets it push past 30 inches before the flip, the performance starts to decline. It sounds straightforward but in practice it’s the kind of precision that separates a good batch from a great one, and Pistol and Paris has been refining it with every cycle.
The Hunt
The goal was to amplify what worked and find a phenotype that could stand apart in a market where flavour profiles are starting to blur together.
Torres and his team hunted across three genetic lines, Hawaiian Rain, Permanent Marker, and Hawaiian Marker. The Hawaiian Marker emerged as the clear winner, offering what Torres describes as the best balance across the board for yield, structure, bag appeal and most importantly, the flavour they were chasing.
“We were searching for something unique that could separate itself in a crowded market,” said Torres. “The target was to capture some of that classic Permanent Marker nose and flavour, but layer in a little more candy sweetness to create a more memorable smoking experience.”
The result is a cultivar that delivers loud terpenes, strong potency (28–32% THC), and a clean, dense structure without sacrificing the commercial consistency that retailers need. It’s a balance that’s harder to achieve than it sounds, as many products lean too far toward boutique quality or commercial volume. Perma Fried is built to do both.
One of the more telling details from the grow is how Torres approaches harvest. Rather than relying on a calendar or runoff data, he reads the plant.
“We focus on the visual and physiological signals the plant gives us, not just following a calendar,” he explained. The indicators are hardened buds, a natural colour fade, around 70% orange hairs, reduced water uptake, and various other telltale signs.
After testing multiple batches across a 56–65 day window, days 58–60 consistently delivered the best combination of THC and terpene expression. That’s the sweet spot, and it’s where this batch was harvested. For consumers, the difference between a product harvested at peak maturity versus one pulled too early or too late is tangible in the flavour, potency, and overall experience.

According to Cannabis Supply & Production Coordinator Cody Rossi, the Quebec drop is rooted in something more specific than opportunity.
“Perma Fried aligns naturally with Quebec’s strong sense of family and community. The Torres family has been cultivating cannabis in Canada for three generations, and this drop represents the continuation of that legacy.”
That story matters in a regulated market where differentiation is increasingly difficult. Quebec consumers have shown a consistent appreciation for products with a clear sense of origin, and a three-generation cultivation legacy is about as clear as it gets.
What makes this particular batch stand out, according to Rossi, is the depth of refinement behind it. The Torres family has spent nearly 2.5 years dialing in Perma Fried through repeated cycles and that repetition shows. Stronger terpene development, tighter bud structure, and more consistent quality run-to-run are the direct result of that work. It’s a level of maturity that newer or less-refined offerings in the market simply can’t match.
For Pistol and Paris, Perma Fried isn’t an outlier. It’s a reinforcement of what the brand already stands for, which is craft-focused cannabis grown with intention and refined over time. This batch reflects the peak of that work and it’s now available in Quebec.
